Club Equus (pronounced Eck-ooze by the ladies) or just Equus Bar is a popular class 3 (medium-size) bar located on Fields Avenue midway down on the same side as Kokomos and HiSo. If you've been on Fields and made the rounds, you've definitely strolled past it more than once. You might have even stopped off to grab a burger at the Burger Shack wedged between Equus and Arcadia Bar next door - a new venture by the same guy who runs the restaurant at Royal Amsterdam Hotel.
This location was previously called Fantasy Bar. I like this bar because it brings back Fantasy memories from my early days of barhopping. I remember watching guys get hypnotized by one older ("stone-face", we called her) dancer who used to work there years back. Stone-face could have passed for a butter-face, but her face was chiseled like a rock. For the life of me I can't remember her name but she knew how to work the stage like a real pro. As they say, practice makes perfect! I remember hanging out and hearing guys say she was aged to perfection, but like most of 'em past their prime she was sporting a ton of mileage. I saw her once at SM with her kids and, from what I could tell - grandkids......but every night she was still out and about. Work work work....
There are approximately 80-100 dancers and 20-30 waitresses working on any given night. The number of dancers has a slight uptick on the weekend. Like most other bars, earlier in the night it can be a bit sparse with the customer base - things usually pick up later on. Most barhoppers down this way like a bit of rowdiness, so I would recommend trying Equus somewhere around 11 PM give or take. The stage area is a bit cramped but you'll manage.
The current lineup is decent to say the least. Of the 80/100 you would easily find 25% that are probably right up your alley. "Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks..."
This joint was previously called the Fantasy Bar which was owned by the Pasha Group. The owner "SD" has made some adjustments to the corporate structure, and the 7 bars in this group now have various shareholders involved (although it's a mystery if anything has been swapped out on the assessment, aside from the name of the building.)
