HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN - NEW OWNERS TO REOPEN COTTAGE KITCHEN WITH A BRAND NEW LOOK.
Jim and Elvi's Cottage kitchen was a landmark for 18 years and when Jim passed away last year his many friends and fans hoped that the restaurant would survive in his memory. When I heard that the new owners decided to open as a Mexican restaurant I and many others were disappointed. For myself, I figured there were already enough places in town to eat Mexican, who needed another one. On Monday night I received a call from a friend telling me that he saw a new Cottage Kitchen sign going up in front of the restaurant. I was shocked! This afternoon I stopped by to see what was going on and was overjoyed to find out the new owners had decided to not only keep the Cottage Kitchen name but to retain Jim's menu, his old staff and the cooks that Jim had trained so well. They did not want Jim's memory or his food to fade away. What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful man.
There are five people in the Corporation and the two main owners are Benjie Cuazon and the well known Val Nepomuceno Antonio both of whom are very excited to bring Cottage Kitchen back to life. I am sure that Jim's wife, Elvie, is very pleased with this turn of events.
The manager is the lovely, and single, Cel, who is taking a year off from being a teacher at Westfields International School. She has a wonderful personality. The staff have new uniforms made by Neek, the tailor shop next door. The two sisters and daughters of Neek want folks to know their shop is still there and their quality tailoring is still in demand.
For the rest of this week Cottage Kitchen is open for business from 6 PM to 12 Midnight but starting next week the hours will be from 0700 to 2400 hrs 7 days a week. Ah, more good news, on the weekends a band will be on hand to play the music fitting the traditional theme of this restaurant.
It is so great that I can bring this good news to so many and for sure, this old Horse will be a frequent visitor to the Cottage Kitchen, even if only to have a cup of coffee and see the many familiar faces that I know will be there. I am sure I will feel Jim presence next to me.
UPDATE: I just talked to Elvie and now have to check with Cel to see if the 21 Aug date for the opening is still good because Elvie told me she would be planning a big party on 2 Nov which is Jim's Birthday.
2nd update: Cancel 21 Aug altogether. Cel told me the grand reopening was on 3 Aug, that must have been a top secret event. The 2 Nov date is still on, at least for now.
