A reader sent me a comment asking about the status of one Don Thompson. I put it in my column and just received the below information from one Robert Kelly. I am sure many people remember Don. It is not good news. I will not wait for my Dec issue. I would rather hope that Don is able to read this and know that the many who remember him here in AC are saddened to learn of his illness but hope that along with all of us here will remember the good times that can only be experienced here in Angeles City.
This just in...reply from Don Thompson (Owner of Shanno's/Bar Hoppin before..). He is living with his brother inCalifornia. He is very weak & has stage 4 stomach Cancer.
He writes that it won't be long now...BUT..the good news is THERE is NO PAIN. Obviously the doctor has him on plenty of pain medicines....Its so sad to hear because I recall a very robust and thriving guy, who really LOVED LIFE, the GIRLS, drinking and partying! He did not get cheated in that department, Harry!
So, I will let you go...perhaps you can put this in December's issue, as it sounds like he will pass soon...some of the guys there will recall his last name. Mo, (Dave Fisher), will remember his last name, he knew him, as he bought a share of old Shanno's Bar, before it changed hands! Others who went to Bar Hoppin will know it as well...sorry to bring you such sad news. He is 61 or 62 yrs old. (Born in 50/51'). Lived inClearwaterformerly. US MarineCorp-Vietnamor Era. Hell of a guy! Semper Fi, DON!
Hes inLa Habra,California, staying with his brother. He is in Hospice care now, and final days of life, sad to say. But, NO PAIN, so that is good news. Robert Kelly
