When the newsprint rolled out in December 2015, Volume #000 was a lonely piece of paper, a single sheet, nothing more than a front and back cover to read. Most everyone scoffed at me, “That’s it?” Indeed that was it at the time. Every now and then, big things have small beginnings.
The overall consensus was that we wouldn’t make it past the first 6-months. For those of you keeping track, this is now our 7th edition and we’re still here. We grasped the concept of why the communal support was lacking early on. As so many different “advert only” type publications have come and gone in the area over the years it’s easy to understand the general disposition.
Today, I’m proud to say that you’re holding a 28-page paper that has a much better feel and layout than where we began – and we are growing at a steady pace while continually trying to improve our content. Next month is estimated to be a 32 to 36-page issue. All of this, after I had hoped to hit 48-pages by year-end. At this rate we will certainly be there ahead of schedule.
The vision for this newsprint wasn’t just to be a purely blatant advertising platform. Yes, I know you’re not blind and therefore just one turn away from an abundance of promotions. However, as this develops there will eventually be sections that are categorized and will rotate monthly. The more advertisers come in, the more stories and information we can include down the line.
I’d like to personally thank everyone for the support and criticism. Special thanks goes out to Florian David at Homs Printers and his entire staff for their assistance. And to you the reader, if you have any comments on how we could improve this or if you have ideas about topics you would like to see more of, reach out to us via email or text. We’ll see you again next month!
