Oasis Hotel Van Held Up
4 highway robbers nabbed in Angeles
ANGELES CITY -- Policemen apprehended last Thursday four of the five robbers who victimized personnel of a hotel here.
Police Station 5 commander Chief Insp. Alfredo Deleon Canlas identified the suspects as Dean Punzalan of Laong Laan, Caloocan City; Marlon Fuentes of Marilao, Bulacan; Manolito Talaw of Bahay Pari, Candaba, Pampanga; and Enrico Debonbon of Obando, Bulacan.
The fifth suspect was able to escape.
The suspects tailed a security personnel of Oasis Hotel who withdrew Php83,500 from Bank of the Philippine Islands in Bgy. Sto. Rosario here on board a company van.
Upon reaching the bridge along Friendship Highway, four of the suspects on board two motorcycles blocked its path while another suspect blocked its back with a maroon Honda Civic with plate no. TGX423.
At gunpoint, the suspects ordered the victim to give them the bag which contained the money.
After getting the bag, the suspects made a U-turn and sped off. But the victim, security officer Loreto Ollosa, quickly sought police assistance using his VHF radio.
Road blocks were then set up along possible escape routes. At Bgy. Cutcut, the suspects noticed the police blockade and pulled over. The four men alighted from their motorcycles and boarded the car while the fifth suspect chose to flee on foot.
After a brief chase, the four suspects were apprehended by the policemen. Two .45-caliber Colt pistols and two live hand grenades were seized from them.
(It is encouraging to see some fast reactions on the part of the local police and of course, the driver of the Oasis Hotel van. Too bad the thieves did not put up a fight so they could have been shot. No doubt these thieves still have contacts or look-outs in the bank area to identify large withdrawals of cash)
