IS IT LEGAL?
One night last month a bar owner called me to inform me that the Malabanes Barangay's newly formed "tourist police" entered her establishment and declared that they would check the names of her girls and ID numbers and have someone sit in the bar all night to check to see if any employee left with a customer. Then, two days later I received this message: Here's a new wrinkle. I was in Det5 perimeter bar last night around 6pm. I've got this really hot 1st month working spinner ready to go out and in walk the baranguy police in yellow shirts. They stake out a corner, count the girls and match against the work roster. Then one is there all night. just making sure all the girls are there to entertain."
When I heard about this I blew my top. What gives them the right to have one of their men sit in an establishment to monitor the girls? With all the shit going on with the NBI, CIDG, IJM, raids, detaining customers and now some Barangay Captain decides on his own that he is going to try and ruin the business for the Perimeter Road Clubs. Customers do not feel comfortable with any Filipino in some official shirt sitting around watching them all night and taking notes. The legality of such an action must be questioned by bar owners. This is purely a form of harassment and an attack on the bars by a Barangay Captain. The girls already have barangay permits which they paid for and now, could this be a precursor to seeking some other kind of payment? Perimeter Road Bar owners have to join together and seek legal counsel on this Barangay action and fight it in court. This is WRONG and should be stopped. Maybe their shirts should be "brown" instead of yellow.
