Many organizations reached out to give aid to victims of the recent record breaking Typhoon Yolanda. Various countries sent help but most of the assistance centered around Tacloban and many outlying Islands were being overlooked. But two motorcycle clubs and their friends here in Angeles City gathered their resources and took action. They contacted their world wide network of fellow MC Clubs and went into action. The letter below from a member of the Outsider Motorcycle Club will give you an idea of the great work they did. All too often the negative image of motorcycle clubs is unjustified. After reading this you will see what an important part they play in society and they do their good deeds with publicity.
"George, Just explain to Harry that Outsider Motorcycle Club (OMC) Philippines and Peace Riders MC and Friends decided to take matters into there own hands to help the people of Northern Cebu and Malapascua Island and started a donation drive to help the people. We have done so far 3 food runs with relief good of over 30 tons of relief goods and the last run done a few days ago, 4th run was with building materials to help rebuild homes on Malapascua Island. We have collected donations from all over the world through our OMC Mactan Chapter web site who posted details there on how to donate. OMC Philippines and Peace Riders and Friends ensure that all donations reach the people and we distribute the relief good in person to the people.
On the 2nd trip we took a doctor to the island with medical supplies and treated the injured, and if it was not for us this island would most have probably been left alone to fend for itself as everyone is more concentrated in helping Leyte recover that most of the other places hit by the typhoon have been forgotten about and received no aid. OMC Philippines and Peace Riders and friends wanted to ensure that all donations went to the people and not in some government officials pockets or to pay for the salary of a big charity CEO, so we guarantee that all donations go to the people who actually need it.
On the 8th Dec in Austria at OMC Neusiedl am See Chapter club house they are holding a Philippines Donation Marathon with live music and raffle and all proceeds and donations going to the relief fund for the typhoon victims through our OMC Mactan Chapter, they are expecting a big turn out and have many things to auction and raffle off donated by various institutions and music bands and have been featured in some of the local newspapers in Austria advertising the event.
To date 3rd Dec we have collected over 20,000 euros and money is still coming in which will be used for the rebuilding process, and all of our chapters in The Philippines, Thailand and Europe have been big contributors to this donation drive for the people of the Philippines. OMC Philippines and the people of Malapascua Island would like to thank one and all who has contributed so far and we hope we can raise more donations in the next few weeks to continue the relief operations and help rebuild the peoples life's.
One thing for sure with all the bad press that Motorcycle clubs get these days, especially in Australia at present where the law is coming down hard on anyone who rides a motorcycle, we are happy to show and give some help to people who have been devastated by typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan and that Motorcycle clubs do care.
For further details please clink on the links below, on the facebook page there are many pictures and videos of the relief good being transported and distributed to the people."
