The Jockey Club gathering began at Ice Bar on December 16th, which was hosting its billiards league at the same time. Although Typhoon Melor (Nona) was on the tail end of passing and the rain was annoyingly persistent - forcing about 10 people to cancel their meet-up. This left about a dozen guys on the roster. It made sense for the Jockey Club to have a coordinated move just for simplicity sake , beginning at one end of the complex with Ice Bar for an hour, before heading to Baby Dolls Bar, and finishing off at Mischief Bar.
Ice gets high marks for bringing in a lot of action no matter the time of day – the bar is rarely half empty early on. You get a good combination of local guys who are looking to start their buzz, along with regular barhoppers who are on the prowl for the next diamond in the rough. Plenty of guys like the type of place where you can go table to table and shake hands without having to shout into the ear of the fellow patrons.
A lot of bars in this strip share some similiarties, the most obvious being location. Ice is well known for its quality and atmosphere. There’s a hint of the old with the laid back persona and dimly lit space, and at times the light over in the corner above the billiards table sometimes feels like it stands out like a spotlight. The overall layout and set up lend a bit of intimacy for you and your friends, and you can get a good game of pool with the other guys hanging around if that’s your cup of tea.
