Philippines Disneyland Hoax Goes Viral
Disney Corporation Steps In To Quell The Rumors
In late February, an entertainment website published an article confirming the upcoming $350M Walt Disney theme park that was to be built in Philippines, more specifically - the potential location was smack dab in the Clark Freeport Zone.
Facebook users liked and shared to the tune of more than 18,000 messages per hour days before most people bothered to do any research. In the meantime, switched on netizens quickly noticed something was amiss and called foul – and yet, it still took days for the believers to comprehend that the naysayers were right.
Despite the fact that the Clark Freeport Zone is preparing for a major overhaul, a spokesperson from the Disney Corporation released the following statement via the Disneyexaminer.com; “While the Philippines is an attractive market, we have no plans for the region at this time.”
A local Disneyland would draw an entirely new tourism segment, both domestic and international. It seems Mickey won’t be wearing a barong after all. Better luck next time.
