Yes Dear readers, for the first time I have witnessed common sense being used in a Philippine Government office.
Phillip Thrash sent me a copy of the new Dress Code for Immigration. There are a couple of key sentences.
1. Whereas, there is a need to modify the Dress Code Policy considering the tropical weather and the usual tourist attire in the Philippines. (Man, me and many, many others have been saying this for years - this is where common sense finally prevailed)
2. For men - Top: Sleeved shirts that cover the shoulders and waist in its entirety are reqired. Bottom: Men wearing shorts will be allowed access to the Bureau, provided, that it is at minimum knee length. Sports shorts and sweatpants are not allowed.
3. This Administrative Circular shall take effect immediately.
Today I went to the Clark Immigration Bureau in shorts and this policy is in effect. They even have the new dress code posted on the window.
Women can wear shorts as well and skirts but both must not be shorter than three (3) inches above the knee.
I thank the head person in Manila who made this most welcome decision and Officer-in-Charge Siegfred B. Mison who signed the Circular.
