We Just Call It Valentine’s Day...
Valentine’s Day is just another day to us. For you however, it’s a day of couples, mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, and loved ones. Even if you’re single you still somehow find a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
The image of a heart has a meaning that transcends the language we have learned to share with one another. The “Day Of Love” isn’t necessarily about boxes of chocolates, flower bouquets, or cheesy romance cards. It’s about a feeling that you cannot describe. As men, we really don’t understand the feeling – but you have to give us credit, we do try sometimes, even if we don’t speak “Emotionese.”
As men we must constantly ask…how do you feel? How do you feel this way on Valentine’s Day, and all the other days in between? Can you teach that feeling to a man, or is it simply just primitive? The answer is so elusive that we as men have a better chance of winning the lottery than uncovering the truth.
You see, ladies, (most) men just don’t have the Valentine’s Spirit in them. I’m not saying we’re heartless by any means – well, not all of us anyway. We just don’t see Valentine’s Day the same way you do. We don’t feel it the same way. We don’t love the same way. To us, Valentines is just a day where we have a greater than usual chance of doing something extraordinary to make you happy.
But that’s ok, because you’re a woman. You could be our wife, our girlfriend, our mother, daughter, or friend. And although we may never admit it, we could never and would never want to live without you.
We Call It Araw Ng Mga Puso....
For a typical Filipina like me, Valentine’s Day or Araw Ng Mga Puso is one of the most important days of the year. It is almost as momentous as a birthday, monthsary, or anniversary. For those of you who are in a relationship and forget to treat us on this special day, you’ll surely get an attitude when you get home.
Growing up in the ‘Pines we love watching romantic movies no matter how lame they are. What we see while watching those chick flicks creates the idea of how relationships and love should be. But unlike the movies, sometimes it’s not really about the red roses or life sized teddy bears. It could be that little note you leave for us, a cute text message we find on our phone the moment we wake up, or a bundle of sweet kisses before you go to work. It’s really the thought that counts.
I know nowadays some women are materialistic, influenced by what they see on social media and wishing their lover would do the same. But, hey guys, most Filipinas are not hard to please, many of us appreciate simple things like your attention (which is free), especially when we are not always together or are forced into a long distance relationship. Sometimes we just want to be with you, be intimate with you, and be sweet on you.
When it’s all said and done you’re still our boyfriend, our husband, our lover, our partner, and we will still love you. Even if you forget this occasion there are 364 other days where you can make us feel loved another way. Loving and caring doesn’t need to be just one day, it should be everyday. Happy Valentine’s!
