Former long time Angeles City business owner and now Barrio Barretto’s most well known grand facilitator put on one heck of a show to ring in his 73rd Birthday on Saturday, November 7th.
The festivities began with 8 bars providing entertainment for the Treasure Island Pool party starting at 12 PM. It was a fixed entrance with 3 drinks and a buffet lunch to round out the afternoon – this added a nice touch to an otherwise perfectly sunny day. A slew of ladies performed games, dance contests, relay races, and even got down for a beach side limbo competition.
Things wound down around 5 PM and fired up again when the barhop crew met at Alaska Bar to start off the night. There were some introductions between everyone and the game faces were readied for 8 bar stops in the next 4 ½ hours. We hopped down to Dusk ‘Til Dawn for the first of several bar stops that night at 830 PM. One of Dave’s managers, Bret – kept the party going by blowing his trusted parking-attendant-style whistle to announce the time for departure and the next destination.
If my haziness serves me well – we went from Dusk ‘Til Dawn to Rapscallion. Rapscallion to Buccaneer. To Scamps. To Lollipop (oh, Lollipop), Wet Spot, and finally finishing up at Rum Jungle sometime in the AM. Lollipop was packed to the hilt with guys waiting to get a glimpse of the lingerie contest, and anyone who was there and still sober could tell you that the energy buzzing around was nothing short of amazing. The big bars in Angeles put on the big, elaborate shows – this one was simple, with hints of the “old school” pizzazz.
Despite his strict regimen of early mornings, full days, and late nights - Dave still retains his ability to recall with great accuracy his friends and experiences in Angeles City. If you’re familiar with him, drop him a line and wish him a happy belated. If you’re new to Barretto, try and catch him at one of his bars and introduce yourself. You won’t find a better guy to have a chat with.
